my hercules classic silver webcam wont work with any messenger?
it says its compatilbe with messengers, and vista but it wont work
when i click on the desktop icon for it it works fine but it wont work on messenger, i have tried disabling firewall and that wont work either
First of all make sure everything is plugged in right because many issues of technology can be solved simply by plugging things in.
If you have everything plugged in the right place then: if your firewall is blocking it, and that's definately a possibility, turning it off does not always work because firewalls tend to shut down the ports they block when they are turned off. So the best thing to do is to go into your firewall program exceptions list and make sure the file you have to double click to run the webcam program is on the exceptions list. If you have more then one firewall on, you may have to check them all. Windows firewall is usually on even if you have another firewall, but windows is usually good at letting programs run.
If your camera works just fine except when you try to use it online, it's probably a firewall issue, if not, you may need to look over the instruction manual to make sure you did everything correctly.
If you did, then look for the manufacturer's website and see if you can find an update for the webcam your using. Also update your IM service to the most recent version because earlier versions usually have problems with newer technology. Updates are wonderful, they take care of many problems I've found. If your having a problem with an IM and your webcam, the update may have the solution.
If this doesn't work, try another IM service and see if that on e works, if not, then your going to have to talk to customer service. I'd try the webcam manufacturer first, and if they can't help. If that doesn't work, try to find an online customer support for the provider of the messenger service. For example, if you use yahoo IM then look for customer service and ask them what's up.
Well that's everything I'd do. I stress the updates one more time because I have found that many times that was all I needed to make things work. And I mean both, especially the IM service.
