What kind of Hunter is your Cat?
My cat, Clovis, a rescued Russian Blue 2 year old, is an excellent hunter and killer. First of all, somehow he has figured out how to slip past my automatic doggie door, which only opens for my doggie. Once outside, he has learned how to stalk birds, squirrels, lizards, all kinds of bugs, and even the rabbits. So far he has caught and killed a sparrow, two lizards, countless bugs including grasshoppers, and once he brought home what looked like a squirrel tail!
The grossest so far is that he enjoys taunting and killing lizards, and he has brought TWO indoors after decapitating them! One I found behind a couch cushion, and the other was yesterday on the kitchen floor!
I am truly disgusted by his skills and I wish I had a more mellow cat.
Anyone else with a true hunter on their hands?
4 cats I have indoors arent hunters at all. They like to watch birds through the windows but theyve gotten outside before and they just usually ignored them after a few minutes. However one of the inside cats, Jaden, a siamese/tabby mix, loves to hunt fish. Hes already killed one of our pet fish during the night. (We didnt see him do it but the other cats never paid attention to the fish. Only Jaden ever did and he came close a few times when we walked into the room.)
Our outdoor cat is a very good hunter. He likes to hunt birds mostly though. A cat we used to have liked to hunt bugs lol Another was a very good hunter. She killed birds, mice, moles, everything. Once she brought a bird into the house.
A dog we used to have got loose a few times and brought home things. Once he carried home a rabbit and another time he dragged a dear carcass home - we think he must have stolen it from a hunter who was hanging it out to dry over night.
The dog I have now is quite odd though. He doesnt bark, growl, dig holes, bite, nothing. He does bark in his sleep though...ANYWAY lol the only thing he can catch are flies. If they get in during the summer he jumps up in the air and catches them in his mouth. Its pretty entertaining cuz hes a big dog!
However the best hunter we've ever had was a cat named Smokey. He was excellent. He killed birds, squirrels, mice, moles, bugs, he once even brought home a huge white rat. We think it was someones pet rat by the looks of it.
