Aluminum or steel bike for heavy man?
Hi I want ti get a $100 dual suspension mtn bike as an extra bike for fun. A Walmart, they have a Mongoose with aluminum frame and a Next bike with steel frame. Both bikes says it support my weight.
I am 240 pounds and just want to know which one frame will last longer? Thanks.
Save your money. Don't buy any bike from Wal-Mart - EVER and don't buy a full suspension bike unless you have been Mountain biking a while and have decided you enjoy jumping of 3 to 12 foot ledges on a regular basis.
As for steel or Aluminum. Either in a decent bike will be fine (or even on a cheap bike probably). It's reversed now BTW - a few years ago Aluminum bikes were usually more expensive so the perception was that Aluminum was better than steel. Now all the mas produced bikes are aluminum and most of the steel ones are more expensive. Steel is a great frame material for bikes and you can make great bikes out of it. Aluminum is also a great material and can maybe be used to a make a bike that is a bit lighter than a steel bike. Personally - I love Steel
