Fantastic match! Was it not?
Isner and Mahut played one of the most amazing matches in Tennis history today (as well as yesterday and the day before) with John Isner finally prevailing. It was not only one of the great matches of all time, but also a tremendous display of determination and heart from both guys.
I feel so bad for Nicholas Mahut because he showed such amazing flashes of talent and determination. All this even after he won his last qualifying match at 24-22 in the final set! In the end, Johnny played the match of his life and his serve was incredible. I'm so sad to see it end. I hope Mahut continues on and doesn't get too distressed, because I think he has a ton of talent.
So what do you think? Will this match ever be equaled, in any sport, let alone tennis? What do you think such a match does for the sport?
I think it was amazing. Physically amazing that they could do that, mentally amazing, and the winner to unforced error ratio was insane. And most all the sportsmanship from both of these guys was inspiring.
Some people might argue that the quality of tennis wasn't that great. --- and true it wasn't Fed and Roddick battling it out. But for these two guys they played their best. For where they are in the sport, they played above their ability level. Some of those shots in the end of the match were fantastic - And they would be fantastic for any player- Nadal, Fed- whomever.
And I am so glad that the last two games were so good. Both Isner won it with two amazing winners in those last two points.
